U1 is wired to accept an 18 pin Microchip PIC16XXX microcontroller. All the PIC IO pins are made available via the header between this socket and the protototype array. Y1, C1 and C2 form an external 20 MHz (nominal) clock circuit. In addition, the T0CI/RA4 pin 3 may be connected to the on-board RS232 serial port via an on board jumper. This pin may also be shorted to ground via a second jumper. These two jumper allow you to setup the PIC to communicate via the serial port or "autoboot" without serial communications. You can write your PIC code to operate in two modes: "debug" with serial I/O and "production" for stand-alone operation. |
